工作內容
會計師與審計師（Accountants and Auditors）的工作內容、方式等幾乎完全一致。會計師與審計師的工作范疇包括財務、會計、成本、審計、稅務策劃、投資分析及管理等。*(5)
審計師主要包括：
- 注冊會計師，主要執行外部獨立審計工作，如企業財務報表審計；
- 內部審計師，主要執行企業內部審計工作，是企業的員工。
- 政府公務員，主要執行政府審計，如官員離任審計，政府部門及國有企業的審計等。
因此，實質審計師只是另一種形式的會計師，審計師與會計師僅有工作性質及職責上的區別，其工作內容、方式、軟件工具、及所需掌握的計算理論等是完全相同的。
會計師一般可劃分為：
- 會計師（Public accountants），一般需通過注冊會計師考試，成為注冊會計師；
- 管理會計師（Management accountants），也稱內部會計師，屬于公司內部會計，其計算結果一般不對外公開，僅用于公司決策或管理；
- 政府會計師（Government accountants），一般執行政府審計或財務計算；
- 內部審計師（internal auditors）：審計企業或機構內部財務狀況。
會計師與審計師的辦公地點主要在辦公室，一般全職工作。據美國勞工統計局的統計，美國大學五分之一的會計師經常需要加班。*(6)
會計師與審計師主要進入會計事務所、金融公司、稅務及稅收行業， 以及進入公司、政府機構、學校等掌管財務工作。會計師在美國是一個需求量非常大的職業，2012年美國會計師職業從業人數為112.9萬人。在中國，隨著中國制造業、金融、服務業的發展，會計師行業也正在崛起之中。
入行門檻
會計師與審計師一般需要本科以上學歷，會計或其相關專業畢業。為增強職業競爭力，一般要求通過注冊會計師考試，成為注冊會計師。
注冊會計師考試在許多國家都又開設，不少注冊會計師的會員資格國際通用，甚至可能比相關國家國內的注冊會計師會員更有權威性。

就業展望與薪資
會計師與審計師普遍屬于較高薪水的職業，以美國為例，按美國勞工統計局2015年5月公布的數據，美國會計師與審計師平均年薪$75,280，略高于商業與金融行業的平均水準。而按2010年美國勞工統計局公布的數據，美國全行業平均年薪僅$33,840，商業與金融行業平均年薪為$60,670，而會計師與審計師當年的平均年薪為$61,690。*(1) *(8)
就美國來說，會計師與審計師未來職業崗位的增長速度較快。按美國勞工統計局的預測，未來十年（2014-2024）會計師與審計師的崗位數預計增加142,400人，預計增幅11%，達到1,475,100人。該職業增長預期高于美國全行業平均預期增幅（7%），略高于全體商業與金融行業預期增幅（10%）。*(3)
