生物化學（biochemistry，或作biological chemistry）是研究生物體中的化學進程的一門學科，它主要用于研究細胞內各組分，如蛋白質、糖類、脂類、核酸等生物大分子的結構和功能。
在生物化學研究中，對細胞代謝和內分泌系統的研究進行得相當深入。生物化學的其他研究領域包括遺傳密碼（DNA和RNA）、 蛋白質生物合成、跨膜運輸（Membrantransport）以及細胞信號轉導。*(1)
與化學生物學的區別
生物化學側重于研究重要生物分子的化學性質，特別著重于酶促反應的化學機理。而對于化學生物學來說，則著重于利用化學合成中的方法來解答生物化學所發現的相關問題。
