統(tǒng)計學(xué)（Statistics），研究如何測定、收集、整理、歸納和分析反映客觀現(xiàn)象總體數(shù)量的數(shù)據(jù)，以便給出正確認(rèn)識的方法論科學(xué)。其目的是要解決問題。*(1)
數(shù)學(xué)與統(tǒng)計學(xué)的區(qū)別
統(tǒng)計學(xué)分?jǐn)?shù)理統(tǒng)計和經(jīng)濟統(tǒng)計兩個方向。其中數(shù)理統(tǒng)計是屬于數(shù)學(xué)科目里面的一個分支，數(shù)學(xué)從某種意義上說可以是統(tǒng)計學(xué)的基礎(chǔ)。統(tǒng)計偏向分支，更加細(xì)化，沒有數(shù)學(xué)那么寬泛；經(jīng)濟統(tǒng)計是偏向統(tǒng)計學(xué)知識在經(jīng)濟中的應(yīng)用的。
