我在密歇根大學安娜堡分校機械工程官網查詢時，發現FAQ板塊中（http://me.engin.umich.edu/admissions/grad/faqs）有兩個關于GPA的描述，相差甚遠,弄不清到底哪個可以作為參照啊？(分別如下所示)

If my GPA or GRE scores are low, will I have a chance of being admitted to the program?

Application materials undergo a comprehensive review by the ME Graduate Admissions Committee. The committee is a faculty group who reviews all applications submitted; they determine how many students will be admitted to the program and provide recommendations for admission.   

Admission decisions are based on the quality of a combination of factors, including academic degrees and records, the statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, test scores, as well as research and relevant work experience. The applicant's background and life experience may also be considered in determining how it would contribute significantly to an educationally beneficial mix of students in the department.

If you feel that your GRE or GPA is not strong enough, please know that the Graduate Admissions Committee reviews the whole application when considering who to admit to the program.  We are looking for students who are strong in at least three of the four areas below:

• • Average GPA in the 3.7 range or better on a 4.0 scale
  • GRE scores in the 80-90th percentile (Quantitative and Verbal): Please take the GRE revised General Test. Or if you previously took the GRE General Test, request ETS to send the scores to University code: 1839.
  • Strong letters of recommendation
  • Strong Statement of Purpose and Personal Statement (two separate essays are required).

Does the Mechanical Engineering Department have minimum GRE and GPA requirements?

There are no specific minimums for the GRE or GPA, however, the successful applicants are those students who are strong in at least 3 out of the 4 areas below:

• • Average GPA in the 3.2 - 3.5 range on a 4.0 scale
  • GRE scores in the 80th-90th percentile
  • Strong letters of recommendation
  • Strong Statement of Purpose (SOP) and Personal Statement (PS)
    • Please note that the Statement of Purpose and Personal Statement should be two separate documents. See an explanation of both of them in the above questions.

這個，其實怎么說呢，兩個都準！

第一個，是“looking for；

第二個，是被錄取學生的平均成績。

就是說，你如果滿足第一個FAQ中的那四個條件中的三個，那密歇根大學安娜堡分校就可能會考慮錄取你；而實際錄取的學生呢，很多可能是不滿足第一個FAQ中關于GPA的條件的，而是其它三個強的，所以導致錄取學生的平均GPA，壓根就沒有3.7。

所以，這兩個FAQ其實并不矛盾。
